The Lightning Win Five Straight In Doubleheader Sweep Over The Squeeze
(Leesburg, Fla.)-The Leesburg Lightning swept the Winter Garden Squeeze on Saturday night, grabbing the team's fifth straight victory.
The Lightning would carry a 2-0 lead heading into the resumed first game, tacking on the first runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the 2nd coming off a RBI-double from 1B Collin Priest and one off a bases loaded walk that scored in Priest on Thursday.
Winter Garden would quickly respond back in the Top of the 4th as the quintessential "road" team, tying the game 2-2 off of a Titan Kamaka RBI-double and a sacrifice fly that would score Kamaka.
The Lightning would take back their two run lead in the bottom of the frame off two RBI-singles from Gabe Santiago and Ryan Jenkins, propelling Leesburg back into a 4-2 lead.
The Squeeze would tying things again in the top of the 6th, coming off the heels of an error and another sacrifice fly by Todd Clay. However, Leesburg would again drive in two, including coming from a James Strom solo blast to give Leesburg a 6-4 lead.
Over the last three innings Robert Tracy and Ethan Stephens would only allow one hit each, shutting the door on Winter Garden in the 9th and halting their eight game win streak.
In Game 2, Nick Vieira would have four near-flawless innings, only allowing two hits and striking out his first five batters in his start.
In the 2nd, Leesburg would tack on the first three runs of the game off two RBI-singles from Trent Kelly and Riley Fitzgerald to give the Bolts a 3-0 lead.
The Lightning would add onto to that in the 4th, adding on four runs including coming from an Michael Furry RBI-double.
Winter Garden would tack on a run in the 5th, but the Leesburg arms of Lucas Perez and Tanner Walker would keep the Squeeze scoreless until the 7th, sweeping the doubleheader.
The Lightning will look to continue this five game win streak Monday, welcoming in the Sanford River Rats prior to the All-Star Game in Sanford on Tuesday. First Pitch is at 7 p.m.
