The Lightning Bounce Back Against The Suns Tuesday Night, 7-3
(Leesburg, Fla.)-The Leesburg Lightning staged a late game comeback in the bottom of the 7th, propelling themselves over the DeLand Suns for a 7-3 victory.
The first two innings were quiet offensively for both Leesburg and DeLand, with both starters, Tyler Donay and Logan Wirt stout through the early parts of their start.
Donay would run into trouble in the 3rd. Matthew Farner would drive in two runs on an RBI-single that would give the Suns the first lead of the night, 2-0.
Both would teams would have a scoreless 4th, but in the 5th, DeLand grabbed another insurance run off an RBI-single by Carter White to put the Suns out in front 3-0.
Leesburg had a few opportunities before the 7th to bring across runs, including a bases loaded situation in the 2nd, but DeLand was able to prevent the Lightning bats from getting streaky.
That is until the 7th. The Lightning were able to drive across five runs, with four coming from RBI-singles by Jordy Oriach, Orlando Pena and Riley Fitzgerald, who would drive in the go-ahead run.
The Lightning would add to the 5-3 lead in the 8th, platting across two more runs, one coming off an RBI-single from Ryan Jenkins.
Through the final four innings, the Bolts were helped by reliver Robert Tracy, who struck out six batters and only allowing one hit to help Leesburg keep DeLand quite offensively.
Robert Tracy would shut the door on DeLand in the 9th, with two runners left on as DeLand looked for a late comeback.
Michael Furry would also extend his hitting streak in last night's game, elevating it to 10 games.
The Lightning are back in action tonight, welcoming in the Sanford River Rats at Pat Thomas Stadium for an uncommon home-road game as Sanford will be the home team. First Pitch is at 7 p.m.
