Lightning Sweep Squeeze in Comeback Win

Lightning Sweep Squeeze in Comeback Win

WINTER GARDEN, Fla - The Leesburg Lightning completed a three games weep of the Winter Garden Squeeze on Saturday night with a 7-4 comeback victory at West Orange High School. The Bolts have won five in a row and will head into the three-day break on a high note.

A four run eighth inning for the Lightning was the deciding factor as they broke a 3-3 tie with RBI singles from Ramses Cordova (Winthrop) and Brandon Triplett (Seminole St) followed by two wild pitches that scored runs. Triplett had the big night, going 2 for 4 with a pair of crucial RBIs in back-to-back innings.

Lightning starting pitcher Heston Mosley (Jacksonville) delivered five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. The longest and best outing from the senior from Metter, Georgia.

The Squeeze walked in a run with the bases loaded in the top of the first and Leesburg had the single run advantage up until the sixth inning. Winter Garden outfielder Noah Dickerson (Arkansas Little Rock) hit his second home run in as many games with yet another three-run blast to right field.

Wasting no time was Leesburg as they clapped back with two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at three. Triplett drove in the first run with an infield hit and Michael Furry (Troy) shot one up the middle into center to score the other.

It was another fabulous performance from lefty reliever Cameron Sereda (Tampa) as he squashed the Squeeze offense, leaving them hitless through the seventh and eighth innings. Sereda did not allow a base runner and earned his first win of the summer.

In the ninth, dominant right-hander Justin Gay (Pasco Hernando St) allowed his first run of the season on an RBI single from Squeeze outfielder Brayden Broome (Samford). Gay would respond with back-to-back strikeouts to close out the contest.

The Lightning will have three days off as the FCSL Prospect Showcase will take place this weekend at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia featuring Leesburg’s own Connor Gleeson (Gardner Webb) and Justin Gay. We wish them the best of luck as they are seen by a number of professional scouts.

Leesburg is back in action on Wednesday in a one-off single game with the Deland Suns at Pat Thomas Stadium-Buddy Lowe Field. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
