Lightning Shut Out in Regular Season Finale
Leesburg, Fla. – The Leesburg Lightning closed out the regular season with a 6-0 loss to the Orlando Snappers on Saturday night at Pat Thomas Stadium, finishing the regular season with a 24-11 record.
Orlando struck first in the opening inning when Logan Chalk brought home Nicholas Alonso with a groundout. The Snappers doubled their lead in the fourth as Elvin Figueroa hit a solo home run to center.
The Lightning had opportunities throughout the night but were unable to break through. Leesburg put at least one runner on base in seven different innings, drawing six walks, but managed just three hits and grounded into three double plays that halted potential rallies.
The Snappers added to their lead in the sixth when Jonathan Davila launched a two-run home run to right, making it 4-0. Orlando added two more insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice by Roy Rodriguez and Davila's fourth hit of the night, an RBI single.
Andre Bilbao Jr. made the start for Leesburg and allowed two runs over 3.1 innings. Lucas Perez followed with a scoreless inning of relief, while Carson Henrikson struck out five over 2.2 innings despite surrendering the two-run homer. Cole Jones worked the final two innings.
Matthew Dumas, Andon Gray, and Ledger Pleasant accounted for the Lightning's three hits, while Dylan Green, Preston Murphy, Jack Waddingham, Cory Banasiak, and Marcello Cortale each drew walks.
Despite the loss, Leesburg finishes the regular season with the Florida League's best record at 24-11 and now turns its attention to the postseason, where the Lightning will look to carry their regular-season success into the playoffs. They’ll take the field on Tuesday night for Game 1 of the semifinals at 7:00 PM at Pat Thomas Stadium.
