Lightning Dominate in Final Regular Season Game

DELAND, Fla - The Leesburg Lightning finish the 2022 regular season with a six-game winning streak after defeating the Deland Suns, 10-0, in a seven-inning mercy rule victory on Saturday night at Sperling Sports Complex.

The big bats shined once again for the Bolts as seven runs would be scored in the first two innings of play. Marco Dinges (Tallahassee CC) started the scoring with an RBI single to center field in the top of the first inning.

Dinges would then hit a three-run homer to left center field that put Leesburg up 7-0 after two innings, giving him an incredible 10 RBIs in the past three games.

Lightning shortstop Ramses Cordova (Winthrop) added to the six-run second inning with a two-run single and Noah Best (Birmingham Southern) picked up 22nd RBI of the summer with a sacrifice-fly to left field.

Leesburg’s pitching staff delivered a stellar performance as three arms allowed a combined three hits.

Left-handed starter Matt Dadlani (Hillsborough CC) threw the first three innings, allowing two hits and striking out a pair. First reliever Justin Gay would get the win as he tied his season-high of three innings pitched with two strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Gay remains the winningest pitcher in the Florida League with a 6-1 record.

The final touches would be added in sixth and seventh innings as Michael Furry (St. Johns River) would score on a wild pitch and a two-run triple from Travis Stapleton (Polk St) in the following inning made it 10-0, Leesburg. Furry was a big part of the win as he drove in two runs and scored twice on a 2 for 3 day.

Left-handed newcomer Sebastian Miller (Palm Beach St) would finish off the ballgame with a perfect seventh inning, adding a strikeout as well.

The Lightning clinched the No. 2 seed in the FCSL standings with a 23-11 regular season record and will host the Sanford River Rats at Pat Thomas Stadium-Buddy Lowe Field for game one of a best-of-three semi-final series. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm at the Pat.
