Lightning Take Shortened Game Over Squeeze, 3-0

LEESBURG, Fla. -- The Leesburg Lightning (15-17) and Winter Garden Squeeze (4-26-1) played only half of the doubleheader the clubs were scheduled to play on Friday evening. The first game was also shortened, as the Lightning won a five inning game, 3-0.

The game was tight and scoreless early, as Leesburg’s starting pitcher, Peyton Winebarger (North Carolina A&T), tossed four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out three.

The Bolts got a run in the fourth, as third-baseman Max Law (Embry-Riddle) singled home Tate Mathis (North Alabama) and put the Lightning up 1-0.

After scoring the game’s first run in the fourth, Mathis came up in the next inning with runners on second and third and grounded out to second, which drove in a run. The Bolts added another run in the fifth on a Nick Lewis (Valdosta State) RBI single and took a 3-0 lead after four.

That is all it would take for the Lightning to claim the 3-0 victory in just 4.5 innings of baseball at Pat Thomas Stadium. 

The Lightning and Squeeze will play another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 4:00 PM.
