Southeast Collegiate Prospect Showcase to Feature Five Lightning Players

The sixth annual Southeast Collegiate Prospect Showcase will take place on Monday and Tuesday at Wingate University in North Carolina this week, with players from five summer leagues making up the rosters.

The Showcase debuted in 2013, featuring the Florida League facing off against the Sunbelt League at Melching Field in DeLand. The two leagues played each other in Georgia in 2014 and then in Florida in 2015. The 2016 edition added the Southern Collegiate League to the mix and was played in Georgia. Last season, the Valley and Cal Ripken Leagues were added to the field and a bracket-style format was adopted.

More than 50 participating players over the past five seasons have been offered pro contracts, thanks in no small part to their performances in the Prospect Showcase.

This year, the Florida Collegiate Summer League roster will feature 28 players from our league's six teams, including five from Leesburg. The current Lightning players making the trip to North Carolina are Joshua Shapiro (Marshall), Louis Davenport (Undecided), Pedro Reyes-Ruiz (Miami Dade) and Hunter Caudelle (Georgia Gwinnett).

Former Lightning player Javeon Cody (Alvin CC), who left the team at the All-Star break this season to return home and focus on academics, will also play with the team. Leesburg head coach Rich Billings will coach the team.
