Peden Named League's Top Reliever

The Florida League board, coaches and staff have named Drew Peden of the Leesburg Lightning the top relief pitcher for the 2016 season.

The rising junior had an oustanding year for Leesburg. He pitched in 21 regular season games and two playoff games for a total of 23 appearances. In those games, he tossed 38.1 innings and allowed six earned runs, good for a 1.41 ERA. The Suns (1 run on June 21), Squeeze (1 run on June 28) and Boom (4 runs on July 28) were the only teams able to score on him all season. Peden's record stood at 5-0 for the year, to go along with three saves.

This summer marked the second seaon that Peden played for the Lightning. In 2015, Peden was lights out as closer for the Bolts, recording a league best 10 saves. His thirteen career saves are second-most in league history. The rest of his career line reads 7-2, 1.25 ERA, 45 games, 64.2 IP, 64 strikeouts and 19 walks.

After spending the past two seasons at Daytona State College, Peden will be transferring to Florida Atlantic University in the fall.
