Leesburg Lightning Baseball is starting its 5^th Season of summer Wood Bat League baseball as part of the Central Florida Collegiate Summer League.  The Lightning consistently is the fan attendance leader in this six-team league.  Home games are at Pat Thomas Stadium, Buddy Lowe Field, in Leesburg.  Games draw from 1,000 to 2,500 fans per game.  There is no Admission Fee to attend Lightning Games.

John Brandeburg, President of the Leesburg Lightning not for profit team announced last year the formation of the Chairman’s Club to offer high quality merchandise to fans as a way of driving additional revenue to operate the team.  For the 2011 season that club will expand its role to that of assisting in driving game day revenue by selling the raffle tickets and assisting players when they “pass the hat” for contributions at each game.

“The Lightning has a board that works 12 months a year to secure about 70 sponsors to help fund the team each year.  We are the only team in our league to continue to offer Free Admission to all games.  But, in addition to our Sign Sponsors and other business sponsors, the team must rely on game-day revenue generated to help raise all the money needed to have a team here in Leesburg and Lake County” said Brandeburg.

The Lightning has about 5 college Interns each year to support game day activities and support the game day experience.  The Chairman’s Club volunteer program will allow fans to play a role in selling raffle tickets, and assist players in passing the hat for donations at the games allowing the interns to do other game day activities.

There will be a brief meeting at 5:00pm on Tuesday, May 24^th at Pat Thomas Stadium for those wanting to know more about volunteering.  Adults of all ages are welcome.  At that meeting John Brandeburg and Bruce Ericson, General Manager, will discuss the concept and duties as Chairman’s Club Volunteers.
